Steve Randall Neece

September 13 1987

Age 32, San Angelo

Neece was murdered. His murder is still unsolved and heavily involves
the LGBTQ community. His bar, the Red Bandana Saloon, was known
as a gay bar, and he was shot twice in a robbery after closing.

He attended Neosho High School, Neosho, MO, about 8 miles from Mayfield Cemetery
Special thanks to Kent Parks for tracking down the high school photos.

1988

article below covers two different, unrelated cases

note: the Red Bandana was therefore open until at least late 1988,
and did not close upon's the death of Neece

1989

and, at end of that article, Red Bandana still open...1989

Side Story.....less than a year later, the new owner of the Red Bandana, Dortha Gary was murdered.
Her other bar, Dot's Lounge was next door. Her son, Mark, was mentioned as manager of the Red Bandana.
He died in 2002.

BUT......different killer, different crime.....
Marsh's brother-in-law, Ted Cole....perhaps he also killed Neece

and his stay on death row went on for 20 years, until 2010, due to court indecision
and partially due to shoddy police investigations
I generally do not go This Deep into a crime history, but
as I think there's good rational to think that Cole was ALSO guilty in the Neece murder
anyway, I wanted to see how it played out

Interesting back story....Cole, at age 16, in 1973, killed a man,
released in 1978. In 1982 sentenced for 5 1/2 years for sexual
child abuse. Released June 1987, six months later murdered Richardson.
Neece died in September 1987

2010

And, apparently, as of Nov 2024, he's still in prison
after killing two and maybe three men

San Angelo is about 225 miles west of Austin, population 121,000

below, Red Bandana address now, a book store
